EGA Master, in solidarity with the refugee crisis, has donated industrial tool sets to the humanitarian rescue ship Aita Mari.
Formerly a tuna fishing vessel, in 2017, the NGO Salvamento Marítimo Humanitario, thanks to the efforts of volunteers, associations, and the funding from institutions and individuals, was able to acquire the ship and transform it into a rescue vessel to save refugees who risk their lives every day crossing the Mediterranean in precarious boats, fleeing conflicts in Africa.
With these donated EGA Master tool sets now installed in the Aita Mari’s engine room, the Chief Engineer will have greater resources for performing necessary preventive maintenance operations, avoiding unforeseen issues amid the uncertainties involved in high-sea rescue operations.
The ship’s name honors José María Zubia, born into a fishing family in Zumaia (Gipuzkoa, Spain), who became a respected captain in the port of San Sebastián, known for rescuing fellow fishermen during storms. He died during a rescue operation in a storm, leaving a legacy of bravery and solidarity.
